Frances Lake Wilderness Lodge

Self-contained Log Cabin

Self-contained log cabinAre you dreaming of spending some time in a private log cabin in the wilderness of Canada's north, far away from civilization? Our cozy self-contained cabin, close to the shore of pristine Frances Lake and with views in direction of the setting sun offers relaxation and an authentic nature experience. During your stay, you may go at your own pace and explore the surroundings by canoe and on foot. Observe the beavers patrolling the bay or the bald eagles flying high up in the sky and maybe try catching your dinner from the lake. Or simply let go and relax with a good book. Experience the fascinating light during bright summer evenings, marvel at the brilliant fall colours or gaze completely flabbergasted at the first northern lights on clear September nights.

Your log cabin
The new rental cabin is located in open spruce and pine forest, close to the shore with excellent views across sprawling Frances Lake. The only sign of «civilization» is the nearby lodge on the other side of the peninsula, about 10 minutes away on foot. Plenty of privacy is guaranteed, though guests can take comfort in the presence of other humans close by. The two-storey cabin, which we constructed ourselves by hand, was completed in summer 2011 and is suitable to accommodate up to 5 guests.

The entire building process, from felling the trees to installing the interior fittings,
can be followed in a detailed picture story.

The log cabin offers the perfect balance between rustic living and modern amenities. A wood stove and propane lights radiate warmth and soft illumination. Comfortable beds with fluffy quilts guarantee a restful sleep. The kitchenette is equipped with a propane stove, fridge and running cold water. A covered porch and a lovely fireplace promise a relaxing, happy experience. The outhouse is just a few steps away.

Your stay
Guests bring their own food for preparing meals and plan their own daily routine as they please. Explore the idyllic lake with its many bays and islands by canoe, or discover the local fauna and flora on foot. Take a stroll on our lovingly designed nature-interpretive trail or try fishing: the lake offers first-class angling for lake trout and pike. Or simply relax — take your time to read a book or play a game with your family. Far away from the hustle and bustle of modern-day city life, the undisturbed silence and vastness of the landscape will work its magic on you.
