STANDARD ITINERARY

Day 1: Arrival in Whitehorse, overnight stay in the Gold Rush Inn (Yukon)
Take the opportunity to explore the capital city of the Yukon Territory. Do some shopping, go for a stroll along the Yukon River or visit one of the many museums.

Day 2: Flight by floatplane from Whitehorse to Frances Lake Wilderness Lodge (Yukon)
During the 2-hour flight over endless forests, lakes, rivers and mountains you will experience the vast remoteness of the Yukon Territory. At the homey lodge, which has no road access, you will be staying in your private, cozy log cabin overlooking vistas across the lake and into the mountains.

Days 3 – 4: Two days at Frances Lake Wilderness Lodge (Yukon)
Rich guided day programs: sightseeing by motorboat on the picturesque lake, paddling (canoes and kayaks), hiking the nature walk, wildlife watching, angling, visiting the historic trading post of the famous Hudson's Bay Company, having a sauna and relaxing.

Day 5: Flight by floatplane from Frances Lake to Glacier Lake and Virginia Falls (both in Nahanni National Park), and on to Nahanni Mountain Lodge at Little Doctor Lake (Northwest Territories)
Spectacular flight over the northern foothills of the Rocky Mountains to the UNESCO World Heritage Site of the Nahanni National Park (approx. 2½ hours total flying time). Landings and short hikes at Glacier Lake (surrounded by the granite towers of the Cirque of the Unclimbables) and the impressive Virginia Falls, a 90 m drop of the mighty South Nahanni River. Overnight stay at the rustic, self-contained Nahanni Mountain Lodge, located on the shores of scenic Little Doctor Lake. Prepare your own dinner and breakfast from a rich food parcel we'll provide for you, and enjoy a night on your own out in the Canadian wilderness!

  • As an alternative to staying in the self-contained log cabin, you have the option to continue the same evening directly to Fort Simpson.

  • On Day 5 the Southern Extension to British Columbia's Rocky Mountains begins (see Southern Extension itinerary).

Day 6: Flight by floatplane from Little Doctor Lake to Fort Simpson, scheduled flight to Yellowknife, overnight stay in the Explorer Hotel (Northwest Territories)
In the morning you'll be picked up by the floatplane and fly in 30 minutes to Fort Simpson. After a short city tour you'll continue on a 1-hour scheduled flight to Yellowknife, the capital city of the Northwest Territories, where you'll spend the night in the Explorer Hotel.

Day 7: Yellowknife, flight by floatplane to Blachford Lake Lodge (Northwest Territories)
In the morning you have time to explore the diamond capital of the North by yourself. At noon the floatplane will carry you 100 km southeast to Blachford Lake Lodge (a 20 minutes flight). You can choose to stay either in a (more luxurious) room of the main lodge building or in a (more rustic) log cabin.

Day 8: Blachford Lake Lodge (Northwest Territories)
Rich guided day program: nature (plants, animals) and cultural (Dene First Nation) interpretive tours, sightseeing and angling on the lake and relaxation in the hot tub. From mid-August onwards, Blachford Lake is a splendid location to watch the awe-inspiring aurora borealis (northern lightss).

Day 9: Morning at Blachford Lake Lodge, in the afternoon flight to Yellowknife, overnight stay in the Explorer Hotel (Northwest Territories)
After another morning at Blachford Lake Lodge, in the early afternoon the floatplane will bring you back to Yellowknife, where you'll stay again at the Explorer Hotel.

Day 10: Individual departure
From Yellowknife, you will continue your individual travels or fly back home.

  • Tip: Ideal starting point for a round-trip is Edmonton with good air connections to Whitehorse (start) and Yellowknife (end).

  • From Yellowknife you may begin the Northern Extension via Inuvik and Dawson City to Whitehorse (see Northern Extension itinerary).


SOUTHERN EXTENSION (3 days Rocky Mountains, British Columbia)

The Southern Extension begins at Day 5 of the Standard Itinerary, following the stay at Frances Lake Wilderness Lodge.

Day 5: Transfer (boat and van) from Frances Lake to Muncho Lake, including a visit to the Liard Hot Springs, overnight stay at the Northern Rockies Lodge (British Columbia)
In the morning, we will bring you by boat from Frances Lake Wilderness Lodge to the Campbell Highway. The journey continues by minivan and offers you new impressions of the vast Canadian North. After a stopover in Watson Lake (including a visit to the Sign Post Forest), we'll drive you southbound along the famous Alaska Highway. On the way, you can likely observe wild bison, and with a little luck other wildlife in its natural habitat. A very special treat is the visit to the Liard Hot Springs. Relaxation in the splendid scenery surrounding the hot springs is guaranteed! A short final drive brings you to the overwhelmingly blue Muncho Lake, located in the Northern Rocky Mountains of British Columbia. You'll stay the night in a comfortable lakeshore cabin at the Northern Rockies Lodge.

Days 6 – 7: Two days at the Northern Rockies Lodge, Muncho Lake (British Columbia)
Rich day programs including guided hiking tours, wildlife observations, drives along the Alaska Highway through the Rocky Mountains and canoeing on the lake.

  • It is possible to book glacier flights or fishing trips on site (additional charges will apply).

Day 8: Flight by floatplane from Muncho Lake to Virginia Falls (Nahanni National Park), and on to Nahanni Mountain Lodge at Little Doctor Lake (Northwest Territories)

NORTHERN EXTENSION (2 days Arctic Circle Air Pass to Inuvik – Dawson City – Whitehorse)

The Northern Extension begins at Day 10 of the Standard Itinerary or Day 13 of the Standard Itinerary plus Southern Extension. It contains an attractive flight back from Yellowknife to Whitehorse via Inuvik and Dawson City.

Day 10 or 13: Scheduled flight from Yellowknife to Inuvik, overnight stay at the Arctic Chalet B&B (Northwest Territories)
A 2-hour flight with stopover in Norman Wells brings you across the Arctic Circle to the midnight sun of Inuvik. You'll stay at the quiet Arctic Chalet Bed & Breakfast on the outskirts of town.

  • Additional night and guided trips possible for an extra charge (options include a city tour, learning about Inuit culture, visits to the Dempster Highway or a flight to Tuktoyaktuk at the Arctic Ocean).

Day 11 or 14: Scheduled flight from Inuvik to Dawson City, overnight stay at Klondike Kate's Cabins (Yukon)
From Inuvik you'll fly in 1½ hours south to Dawson City, the historic Klondike Gold Rush town in the Yukon. You'll enjoy an overnight stay in the centrally located Klondike Kate's Cabins.

  • Additional night and guided trips possible for an extra charge (options include a city tour, a gold rush tour or a Yukon River Cruise).

Day 12 or 15: Scheduled flight from Dawson City to Whitehorse (Yukon)
In the afternoon, you'll fly back to Whitehorse, the capital city of the Yukon Territory. From Whitehorse, you'll continue your individual travels or fly back home.

  • Tip: Passengers travelling on the Arctic Circle Air Pass can fly from Whitehorse to Vancouver without additional costs.

  • Program modifications due to adverse weather conditions are possible (i.e. charter flights).
  • All charter and scheduled flights are subject to weight allowances. For this reason, at the time of booking the total payload (total weight of persons plus luggage) must be specified. Some surcharges may apply.
  • Canadian legislation requires you to sign a release of liability and waiver of claims form prior to the beginning of your visit.
  • Frances Lake Wilderness Lodge & Tours is a licensed business under the Yukon Wilderness Tourism Licensing Act and member of the Tourism Industry Association of the Yukon (TIA) and the Yukon Wilderness Tourism Association (WTAY).
